Commonly Confused Words 

Worth, Worthy, Worthwhile 值得的

這三個字 都是 " 值得的 "的意思

但因為長得太像了 所以大家常常會搞錯它們的用法

所以今天要透過 詞性 以及用法 來學習如何辨認噢!

使用這三個字時 通常主詞都是東西 一件事情 或是一個動作

有時候主詞也可以是人 表示這個人值得什麼

worth

(1) 形容詞 "值...的" " 相當於...的價錢" "有...價值的" " 值得..."的

(2) 直接接名詞或動名詞 (be worth + N/Ving)

(3) 多用名詞 或動詞的主動形式(Ving)表示被動意義

eg.

We thought the book was worth publication.

(我們認為這本書是值得出版的)

The issue is worth discussing again.

(這個議題值得再被討論一次)

We should spend more time on something that is worth researching into.

(我們應該把時間花在值得研究的東西上)

I am worth it. 

(我是值得的)

It's worth it.

(這是值得的)

worthy

(1) 形容詞 "值得...的" "有價值的" "值得尊敬的" " 應得到...的"

(2) 接介係詞 of 名詞或動名詞 (be worthy of N/Ving)

(3) 通常of後的動詞都接被動

eg.

This book is worthy of more public attention.

(這本書值得更多的關注)

We thought the issue is worthy of being discussed.

(我們認為這議題很值得探討)

I'm worthy of her forgiveness/of being forgiven by her.

(我值得她的原諒)

His behavior is worthy of great praise.

(他的行為值得表揚)

It's worthy of first place.

(它值得這頭銜)

worthwhile

(1) 形容詞 "值得的" "值得做的" " 有意義的"

(2) 接動名詞 或to加動詞原形 (be worthwhile + Ving/to Vr.)

eg.

We thought the issue is worthwhile to discuss/discussing.

(我們認為這議題很值得探討)

I don't think it's worthwhile paying our attention to the matter in dispute.

(我覺得這個有爭議的問題不值得我們關注)

It's worthwhile for us to participate in this event.

(參加這個活動對我們是有價值的)

Be kind. It's worthwhile to make an effort to learn about other people and figure out what you might have in common with them.

(友善點 理解他人 找出你跟他們可能的共通點這件事是值得去努力的)

速記

worth 和worthy of都可以加名詞(N)

worth  比較短 所以加動名詞直接主動 因為值得所以主動 

worthy 比較長 要讓它顯得更長來強調值得 所以加上of 因為太長了要"被"拖著走 所以加being表被動

worthwhile 自己一國 可以加動名詞也可以加to加原形動詞
